Punctures!

Apologies for the lack of updates here, the usual excuses of work and life getting in the way of training and updates. I’ve been out on three big rides recently (I say recently, I’m counting one I spoke about in June … ah). OK, two recently. Both taking in Box Hill as the climb most people talk about round these parts. I did it twice last week (with a break in between and a big break after the second one) before getting another front puncture on the return to London. To cover my back this time I went straight to a bike shop after a few painful miles and got it changed there.

After a poor showing trying to ride some of the South Downs Way on Sunday – turns out I’m not made for off-roading – I set off to do another 100km today at Box Hill again. After two climbs without a stop I refuelled a bit and decided a third go was worth a shot. Half way up I felt like I’d make it until … ANOTHER PUNCTURE. This time it was the rear, and after cycling on a bit more (having been passed by who I’m pretty sure was Andrew Strauss) I headed downhill, struggling to control the bike with the flat rear. So the train home after 60km and nearly 500m climbing was the end result.

To be fair, it’s my own fault because I’ve yet to invest in a puncture repair kit. That will change very soon!

Fundraising-wise, we’re up to 75% (£2437.96) of the total so I’m thinking we might just make it. Still a few bits to come in and some F1 items to go, plus some prizes still to come from Lotus, Marussia and Williams (which is an awesome one). I’ll stick details on here as soon as I can.
